Its been a few days

Things have been crazy. I got called last week and Chris got sick at school so I had to go pick him up. Normally I would not call this a lucky event however I had registered to win whats called the "MEGA TICKETS" here in St. Louis which consists of 3 sets of concerts Rascall Flatts, Darius Rucker, Brad Paisley, Dirks Bentley, Johnny Wayne, Toby Keith, and Trace Atkins. I'm really excited about it its been so long since I had a break.

On the down side of things Chris was puking sick from Wednesday until Saturday night. Changing 4 times a day and doing laundry daily sucks so bad. Not to mention I had to take 3 days off work which really puts a pinch on things. Luckily he is feeling better I didn't make him go to school today just because I wanted to make sure he was up to it and had his strength back.

On the upside of things he has used the potty 3 times today on his own. Its making for a nice Happy Birthday to me gift.

Our morning

Well this morning wasn't too bad Chris and I woke up and he was his usual chipper self lol...(He's not a morning person) expecially when he stays up and is laughin in bed instead of sleeping like he should be lol. He was pretty grumpy, but nothing that couldn't be solved by some hugs. I must have let him sit on my lap for 15 minutes just hugging on dad. While I know I could have it much worse(Worse in the way affectionate way not as in worse in a child they are all great in their own ways I'm just happy mine likes to love on me) like some parents of ASD children I am thankful for the child I do have. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Adding a picture took this while grocery shopping thought it was great so it was a must add!

Thoughts

Lately I have really felt the burning urge to become even more involved with the Autism Community. I realize that certain organizations like Autism Speaks have done wonders for the cause. First thing I have done is started a team for this years walk now for autism event. If anyone is in the St. Louis area and wants to join our team or if they want to donate I am trying to raise a modest 1000 dollars for the cause http://walknowforautism.org/stlouis/christopherhamp .

So a little bit more about my son and I. My son and I became a 2 man family last year in February. I noticed that he wasn't quite on track with where he should be vocally with only speaking about 10 words. I took him to the pediatrician. And soon after that visit we started the evaluation process. The evaluation process lasted from roughly April until August at which time he was diagnosed by Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital as being Autistic. We started Therapy in April after his first evaluation and have moved from therapy in the home to therapy at school. Chris turned 3 last month and is now a big boy and going to the local elementary school which has Autism based classroom.

Chris turns 3 woohoo.

Current things we are working on are potty training and head banging. He has peed on the potty twice now! Unfortunately he also broke daddy's nose by banging his head though. We are working on the 2nd one extra hard though. We have contacted the behavioral therapist so we can begin to start working to figure out how to help him with that. I'm thinking he may just need pressure release and I have never been taught or shown by any of his therapist on how to do this. Most of his therapy was done at daycare during the day while I was working previous to him going to work. So this is one of those things that I need to work on not just him.

Well that is pretty well the Skinny on the two of us. Until next time!

Introduction

Hello everyone in the bloggosphere. My name is Mike a 27 year old Single Full time dad. I am the father of a wonderful 3 year old boy named Christopher who is also diagnosed with ASD or Autism Spectrum disorder. His official diagnosis was in August of 2008 but we have been doing therapy since April of 2008. I guess I am here so I can get down some of what I'm feeling out which more often or not I seem to bottle up.

Hope to hear from some folks with similar experiences who might be able to relate with me when I'm having one of "those" days. Talk with you all soon.
